Plastic spirals are very popular for binding stationery articles such as notebooks and calendars. A completely different and innovative use for plastic spirals is currently being presented at the drupa 2008 trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, by the Körber PaperLink companies E.C.H. Will, Pemco, Kugler-Womako and Winkler+Dünnebier: Jewelry design using plastic spirals.

“The idea was born at drupa 2004“, says Claudia Halder, who was then a student and has since received her diploma in jewelry and product design. “When I visited the Körber PaperLink booth in 2004, I discovered the plastic spirals that Kugler-Womako uses in its binding machines. I immediately thought: This low cost and strong material, which is soft to the touch, could be the ideal basis for wonderful jewelry. In addition, plastic spirals are available in many colors and sizes - perfect for finger rings”, says the Düsseldorf product designer.

“For our presence at this year’s drupa, Claudia Halder’s idea is a wonderful supplement”, says Stephanie Seeger, Marketing Manager at the Körber PaperLink company E.C.H. Will. “The jewelry is attractive, innovative and an eye-catcher. Many customers are curious about the connection between the rings and our paper converting machinery”, she smiles, “And before you know it, you are in the middle of an interesting discussion with your customer”.

The colorful rings, available in diamond or pearl design, are being displayed at the drupa booth of the Körber PaperLink companies in Hall 11, Stand B62/C62.

At drupa 2008 Körber PaperLink is presenting eight machines under actual production conditions: A punching machine, a binding machine and a double wire forming machine from Kugler-Womako; an SHM folio-size sheeter from Pemco; as well as a high-speed envelope machine with integrated flexo printing unit, a universal envelope and pocket machine, a printing machine for envelopes and a rotary die cutter for folding boxes from Winkler+Dünnebier. E.C.H. Will has dedicated its Competence Center to the mark-free sheeting of folio-size sheets. The display is completed by the new Customer Service program ExpertServe.
