Static Tension and Compression Materials Testing Machines

Tinius Olsen's line of Benchtop Materials Testing Machines are designed to test a wide spectrum of materials including metals, plastics, rubber, textiles, paper, yarn, wire, adhesives, ceramics, timber, foils, composites and finished components in tension, compression, flexure or shear. Maximum frame capacities from 1kN (200lbf, 100kg).

All testing hardware is fully complemented by Tinius Olsen developed software that turns your hardware into a sophisticated quality analysis system. Be sure to examine the software products to determine which package is right for your application.

Single Column Models

The single column materials testing machines have frame capacities of 1 kN or 5 kN (200 lbf or 1,000 lbf) and include two model types — the S series and the T series. These machines are designed to test a wide range of materials, including, but not limited to: plastics, films, paper, packaging materials, filter material, adhesives, foils, food, toys, medical devices and components, in tension, compression, flexure, shear, and peel.

S Series

Using a combination of quality engineering and advanced technology, Tinius Olsen has produced a series of machines that are accurate and simple to use. All S series machines feature an easy-to-read backlit liquid crystal display that can be switched between a numerical and graphical display. All data shown on this display is obtained in real time, with the autoranging graphical display showing the test curve of the specimen under test. The control unit features dedicated keys for moving the crosshead up, down, stop, performing the test, as well as keys for load and extension tare and crosshead return. The control panel also features an alphanumeric keypad to allow the input of test conditions, test data and the formatting of the test report. The control unit can retain up to five separate test routines for easy and rapid recall. While powerful as stand-alone units, these machines can be enhanced by direct connection of a printer through which comprehensive test reports and high resolution graphs can be quickly obtained. The S Series of testers are also designed for users all over the world — an optional language module can be plugged into the control panel and all data on the backlit LCD will be shown in the selected language: (for example English, etc.).

T Series

Building on the quality and technology of the popular and successful S series, Tinius Olsen has developed the T series of machines. The T series models have similar specifications, without the S series control panel. Instead, the T series machines communicate directly with a standard PC or network running one of our Windows based data analysis software packages, via high speed RS232 in both  SCII and super high speed binary modes.

Common Features

The S and T series use rapid change Z beam load cells that allow for simple and quick “sizing” of the machine to an appropriate capacity for the test. These load cells have an accuracy of +/- 0.5% of the applied load value, from 2% to 100% of the load cell capacity. The S and T series have a huge assortment of specimen grips and fixtures allowing the selection of an ideal configuration for your application.

Dual Column Models

The dual column materials testing machines have frame capacities of 10kN, 25kN and 50kN (2000 lbf, 5000 lbf and 10,000 lbf) and include two model types — the S series and the T series. These machines are designed to test a wide range of materials, including, but not limited to: rigid plastics, films, paper, packaging materials, filter material, thin sheet metal, adhesives, foils, food, toys, medical devices and components, in compression, flexure, shear, and peel.

Software

Building on our long history of providing solutions to an enormous variety of testing problems, Tinius Olsen offers a comprehensive range of software products, each designed to make testing simple, precise and efficient, no matter whether the material is metal, paper, composite, polymer, rubber, or micro components. Tinius Olsen software goes far beyond basic module changes for unique applications; instead, specific and focused application software products have been developed in close cooperation with our customers around the world. There are several valuable features that are common to all, perhaps the most important is the ability to further customize the testing parameters that are used to collect and document testing data, as well as control the testing machine. Specifically, our range of application software is for data acquisition, data analysis and also closed loop control of Tinius Olsen testing machines that have a compatible servo system or four quadrant drive.

Melt Indexers (Extrusion Plastometer)

Tinius Olsen has two models of melt indexer to meet almost every need. We offer either our low cost, Procedure A (of ASTM D1238) ONLY model, the MP200, or our more familiar, flexible, model MP600.

The MP600 is an advanced melt indexing system that allows easy, modular upgrading from its basic capabilities with accessory packages for more automated testing, including control of multiple units from a single PC and automatic flow rate measurements using up to three different loads in one test.

All testing hardware is fully complemented by Tinius Olsen developed software that turns your hardware into a sophisticated quality analysis system. Be sure to examine the software products to determine which package is right for your application.

MP200 Melt Flow Index Tester

The MP200 is designed specifically for use in quality control departments as a quick and simple melt flow index test for raw material according to procedure A of internationally recognized MFI standards of ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133. The MP200 features two independent temperature controllers that heat the furnace up to 450oC and maintain that temperature to within 0.2oC. Add one of the optional calibrated test weights, a weighing scale and a stopwatch, and you are ready to test a wide variety of resin. The simple to use MP200 is ideal for processors who need an accurate and inexpensive solution to melt flow index questions; the machine is supplied comes with all necessary tools to charge, operate and clean the barrel and conduct the test; and can be fully upgraded to the  powerful MP600 controller.

Deflection Temperature Under Load and Vicat Testers

The Models 603 HDTM and 303 HDTM are the latest generation of Tinius Olsen's digitally controlled Automatic Deflection Temperature/Vicat test equipment, with an automated testing sequence that proceeds according to user defined control and configuration parameters.

All testing hardware is fully complemented by Tinius Olsen developed software that turns your hardware into a sophisticated quality analysis system. Be sure to examine the software products to determine which package is right for your application.

303 HDTM

The Model 303 HDTM is the smaller of the two models of DTUL/Vicat test equipment and is capable of testing up to three different specimens simultaneously, using an automated testing sequence that proceeds according to user defined control and configuration parameters.

The machine is supplied as standard with two test stations and, optionally, one more can be added. All stations are pneumatically raised from the oil bath at the touch of a button allowing easy placement of the test specimens. Once loaded, the test stations are lowered into position and the test can be started either from the handheld controller, or from an attached pc running Tinius Olsen’s HDV software.

The machine also features air bearing guided loading rods on each test station to ensure smooth load application and precise measurement of displacement. Additionally the test stations feature a ‘catch basket’ that is designed to catch any test specimens that may become dislodged during the test, so keeping the oil bath as clean as possible. Once the test is complete for all stations, the cooling cycle, using tap water as the coolant, starts automatically to allow more testing.

603 HDTM

The Model 603 HDTM is the larger of the two models of DTUL/Vicat test equipment and is capable of testing up to six different specimens simultaneously, using an automated testing sequence that proceeds according to user defined control and configuration parameters.

The machine is supplied as standard with two test stations and up to four more can be added. All stations are pneumatically raised from the oil bath at the touch of a button allowing easy placement of the test specimens. Once loaded, the test stations are lowered into position and the test can be started either from the handheld controller, or from an attached pc running Tinius Olsen’s HDV software.
